Energy Based Therapies

Energy Based Therapies make up one component of The Hutchinson System of Integrated Massage.

We consider energy based therapies to include any method by which remote areas of the body are treated without contact and does not use conventional nervous, muscular-skeletal, or circulatory systems to cause the physical change.   These can include the Reiki and Qi Gong healing systems that use limited to no contact or systems that physically effect channels within the body such as Acupressure and Reflexology.

In practice, these techniques are interwoven with the physical bodywork and disappear while the effects are felt the practices themselves.

 Reiki Qi Gong

Reiki and Qi Gong are the two primary forms of energy projection incorporated into The Hutchinson System of Integrated Massage.   The methods we subscribe to are based in a theoretical concept as western research into these arts are still in their infancy.

Qi Gong is best known for its relationship to the Chinese systems of medicine, meditation, and martial arts.  Qi Gong schools varied by location and focus throughout China, and provided several methods for affecting the body using energy to penetrate directly, attune the surrounding energy field, or the channels of energy that flow through the body.

Reiki has become a generic term for energy based therapies that focus on Chakra or energy center work. The name Reiki comes from the Usui Reiki System of Natural Healing while similar to Qi Gong is Japanese in origin and traces its techniques to Tibet.

We include four lines of Reiki within our system Two Usui, a Tibetan, and an Egyptian School.  All of our systems focus on the therapeutic aspects of these arts.

  Reflexology

&

 Acupressure

Both of these systems use pressure on specific locations of the body to treat remote areas of the body.

Reflexology uses a zone theory that maps the body to points on the hands, feet, or ears as well as points along the zone lines, to treat crystallizations or blockages that a trained therapist can feel.

Reflexology systems are mainly Western in origin.

Acupressure appears similar in application but works on a much more complex network of energy channels similar to those in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Balance within the body is developed through correcting the flow of energy within these channels.

Most Acupressure systems began in Eastern cultures.
